The State Executive Council refers to the body of Commissioners of the government of the State, established by the Governor. Members of the Executive Council, with exception to the Deputy Governor are appointed by the Governor in due consultation with the Legislative arm who approves such before membership.
It is composed of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Commissioners and Special Advisers. The Council is the highest administrative decision making body in a State and in charge of deliberating on key issues of great priority to the State.
The functions include but are not limited to:
- Deliberate on general direction and policies of the State
- Coordinate the activities of the Governor, the Deputy Governor and the Commissioners of the government of the State in the discharge of their executive responsibilities
- Advise the Governor generally in the discharge of his executive functions
The State Executive Council in the State of Osun meets every Wednesday and key decisions and deliberations are communicated to the general public.
