Mr Gboyega OyetolaThe Chief of Staff to the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, has revealed that the target of the government is to ensure aggressive drive to improve on its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He spoke in Osogbo recently shortly after presenting the report of 2013 budget performance review of his office to the State Assembly committee on Finance and Appropriation.

According to him, though, the overall performance of the present administration in terms of IGR has been quite encouraging, but the government would still tap its potentials that have not been tapped.

Oyetola further stated that the aggressive posture of the government towards IGR was to ensure that the state is self-sustaining to an extent without depending entirely on the federal allocations.

He stressed that there are areas like tourism, mineral resources among others, where the government is putting conscious efforts to develop to ensure that the state has revenue coming from these sources.

“This administration met N300 million monthly as IGR and we have increased it to about N1.6 billion. Despite that, there is an aggressive drive to improve on it.

“So, the overall picture of the IGR has been quite wonderful and that is part of the aggressive posture of Mr Governor on the need for the state to be self-sustaining to an extent and that we don’t depend entirely on the federal allocation.

“We all know how terrible the allocation from the federation account has been and what it means is that we must, as a matter of fact, drive the IGR aggressively to ensure that we are able to meet our obligations,” he said.

On how the government has been able to cope with the decline in the allocations from the federation account, Oyetola noted that it is the ingenuity of the governor that has been assisting the state government.
“It is the ingenuity in financial management of the governor that has been helping the state to cope with the decline in allocation. Most other states have not been able to meet their obligations, but here in Osun, we are meeting our obligations.

“The financial re-engineering here has been sustaining us. None of our project is being abandoned, and that tells you the ingenuity on the part of the governor,” he stressed.
